Dr. T. Patrick Carrabré is stepping down as Director of the School of Music to focus fully on his responsibilities at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, where he has been reappointed to a new five-year term.

A member of the Manitoba Métis Federation from Treaty 1, Dr. Carrabré was the first Indigenous Director of the School of Music. Recruited to UBC in July 2019, he has been instrumental in leading the School through the challenges of the pandemic and developing a strategic direction that supports the academic mission of the university.

“I take this opportunity to express our appreciation to him for his leadership of the School over the past five years, his contributions as a member of the academic leadership group within the Faculty of Arts, and the work he has undertaken thus far in transforming the Chan Centre.”

Dean, Faculty of Arts

Dr. Carrabré will continue his role as a faculty member in the School of Music composition division. His directorship at the School will end May 15. An Acting Director will be announced soon.

We send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Carrabré for his dedication to the students, his efforts in decolonial work at the School, and laying a foundation that will support many years of diverse music making.
