The Public Engagement and Communications Intern will help manage communication campaigns for CMC events, oversee the website and digital presence of the CMC, manage social media campaigns, work comfortably within the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software program PatronManager (Salesforce), implement national marketing campaigns to support CMC’s development program, support stewardship initiatives and engage in public outreach.

The intern will engage in creating marketing and promotional campaigns. They will help to promote music performances and special events. They will be part of the editorial team for digital newsletters and the pan-Canadian digital magazine, CMC Résonance. They will also participate in the Event Management team.

The Canadian Music Centre (CMC) provides unique resources for exploring, discovering, and performing Canadian music. CMC is passionate about nurturing a musical community that honours their legacy and supports the professional development of Canadian musicians and composers. The CMC is the only organization that focuses solely on Canadian contemporary classical music, and that has a well-established history of gathering and cataloguing Canadian contemporary classical music for six decades. The CMC delivers its Mission, Purpose and Vision through eight pillars of services and activities: 1) Library Services, 2) Publishing-rentals-sales of exclusively Canadian composers, 3) Recording and Distribution Services, 4) Communication services, 5) Education and Outreach, 6) Concert presentations focusing on Canadian composers, 7) Awards and showcase events, and 8) Export development.

The position will be integral in securing the overall success of the organization by combining design and technical knowledge to create information and communication capacity and capability relevant to the Directors, staff, and stakeholders of the organization. This includes working and liaising with third-party service providers to implement new initiatives as well as directly producing and updating web content and interactive media.

The Canadian Music Centre hopes to hire someone with excellent communication skills, in both English and French, as well as strong project management skills. Good organizational, attention to detail, analytical and troubleshooting skills will allow the candidate to work independently, prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment. Preferred qualifications include experience creating and managing web sites, managing databases and interactive content, and participating in communications campaigns; and professional-level skills with HTML, CSS, WordPress, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Windows.

Experience with graphic design, web content writing, SEO, and web analytics are desirable. Strong customer service skills and the ability to listen and communicate effectively with non-technical users are important.

Ideally the candidate will possess a strong familiarity with classical and more specifically Canadian contemporary classical music. Fields of study could include communication, graphic design, arts administration, museum studies, and music education.

The CMC’s national office is located in vibrant downtown Toronto, close to public transit. The location includes a performance space that provides an excellent downtown venue for a diverse community of performers and composers. The Music Library houses a collection of over 30,000 scores by 1,200+ CMC Associate Composers, as well as nearly 15,000 archival sound recordings that can be streamed online.
