“My grandfather came from Punjab, my violin from Cremona. I grew up in the foothills of the Rockies playing fiddle tunes and Bach…”

With these words, violinist Parmela Attariwala began a project to unite the various strands of her eclectic Western musical education, with her heritage as a third-generation Indo-Canadian. Her efforts resulted in an acclaimed April 1996 concert at the Music Gallery in Toronto, a national broadcast of the music from that recital on the CBC’s Two New Hours, and a new CD on Hornblower Recordings: Beauty Enthralled.

Beauty Enthralled includes five very different, very personal interpretations of Indian music traditions, gestures, practices and usages, as performed by Parmela Attariwala on violin and viola, along with guest performers Ravi Naimpally, tabla and singer/composer Kiran Ahluwalia.
