Boathouse Records is proud to present its July 1998 release of Ross Taggart & Co featuring seven of Western Canada’s finest jazz musicians. Pianist/saxophonist Ross Taggart chose to stick to the tenor saxophone for his solo recording debut. Aside from original music contributions from Taggart, Ron Johnston, Linton Garner and Sharon Minemoto, there are five interpretations of jazz standards.

As a ten year member of the award-winning Hugh Fraser Quintet, Ross has traveled to Europe, Cuba and all over North America. Ross has performed with P.J. Perry, Ian McDougall, Kenny Wheeler, Fraser MacPherson, Slide Hampton, Bobby Shew and many others. Ross studied in New York City with sax legends Clifford Jordan, George Coleman and J.R. Monterose.

“Vancouver happens to be a city with a rich history of great tenor saxophone players, and Ross takes his place on that list. He encompasses the tradition of the jazz saxophone in his playing, he’s uncompromising and he swings hard.. At the age of thirty, that makes him an innovator in my opinion.” – Campbell Ryga
