CONCERTINO FOR VIOLONCELLO, HARPSICHORD AND STRING was commissioned by the Ottawa-based violoncellist Pawel Szymczyk – Marjanovic and the L’Orchestre de Chambre de Hull, under a grant from the Canada Council. As the planned premiere performance did not take place, now – some 35 years later – the work, recomposed and edited in many places, is finally offered in print for performance and perusal. The influence of Baroque works for this combination of instruments will be obvious to the listener in all 3 movements, but the contemporary musical language and gestures will place the work firmly into the 21st century.
