Robert “Bob” Erlendson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the age of 93 years. Bob was born in Winnipeg, MB, on January 17, 1931, later moving to Calgary, AB.

Bob was a career musician, working as a jazz composer and arranger. He especially enjoyed composing and playing jazz music on the piano. He recorded five albums, toured all across North America, and was a lifetime member of the AFM. Bob also enjoyed teaching, and taught jazz theory to everyone he could.

Bob is survived by his son, Tim (Yvette) Nelson of California, daughters, Jenifer Erlendson (Dufferin Wallis) of Toronto, ON, and Jessica Erlendson van Remmen (Martyn van Remmen) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Kelly Martel, Leah Martel, Alex Nelson, Quinn Nelson, Josh Davis, and Jordan Erlendson; as well as eight great-grandchildren, one brother, and two sisters. He was predeceased by his wife Jackie Erlendson (2005); sons, Jeff Martel (1992), and Greg Martel; and parents, Magnus and Cora Erlendson.

The family would like to thank the Toronto Musician Association for the generous funding as his care increased in his final years, and John Charles Reid of MCC for capturing his octet charts for future musicians to enjoy.

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Masks are encouraged to be worn for the service. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Erlendson’s service streamed live on the day of the service at www.MHFH.com. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
