Urban Diversions is a collection of jazz originals performed by Neil Currie and a band drawn from musicians of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and faculty of the University of Saskatchewan Department of Music. The works utilize techniques drawn from the composer’s Doctoral studies in Composition, including 12-tone rows, interval pairs, and process music. Nonetheless a light and even playful mood predominates throughout the disc.
