Flute in the Wild is Jaye Marsh’s debut album and is a celebration of the wild and beautiful spaces of Canada featuring four fantastic  Canadian composers sharing their experience of Canadian wild spaces through music for flute. She commissioned works for this project from Elizabeth Raum, Richard Mascall, and Richard Herriott and included an existing work by Diane Berry. Within this audio space reside loons and the Northern Lights, Ojibway stories and the Red Turtle Drum, lonely vistas atop Newfoundland rock, and a hike along a wild river under the gentle mist of a waterfall. Welcome to Canada through a flute lens!

Jaye has appeared as a recitalist throughout Ontario and has curated numerous ‘Flute and Friends’ concerts featuring pianists, dramatic readings, wind ensembles, and commissioned works. She is currently principal flutist with the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra and plays regularly with the Windsor Symphony as well as other regional orchestras around Ontario on both flute and piccolo. Highlights of a  freelance career include principal flute for the opening orchestra for an Evanessence tour and for the Cirque Musica tour orchestra, punctuated with a number of soloist appearances over the years.

Jaye is The WildFlute a water sprite, a trickster, a siren. The haunt of a loon, cooling river mist, rain drops, and butterfly wings. Physically based in Toronto, spiritually based in the Maritimes and Georgian Bay, Ontario, Jaye explores some wild and beautiful places in Canada through chamber music that includes works for flute, harp, and bassoon; flute, harp, and percussion; flute, narrator, and piano; alto flute and piano; and a delightful duet for flute and loon.

This is ultimately an offering of new music to all the flutists around the world in hopes that they will take the opportunity to play a piece of Canada themselves.
