The glass instruments presented here make use of pentatonic, chromatic and microtonic relationships. No one system is used exclusively or rigidly. Equal temperament comes and goes; for instance, many of the notes in the percussion sculptures and lithophones are sharp or flat fifty cents of equal temperament pitches, while middle C and A 440 appear with humorous persistence. These scale clusters were created to produce exciting harmonic relationships, rich textures and exotic colours. Polytonic notes, emitting two and three pitches from a single stroke, blend with “pure tone” notes of scalp tingling clarity to produce a scaler soundscape that is both strange and familiar.
