Based in Vancouver, this energetic group has been thrilling audiences in coastal British Columbia at jazz festivals and clubs since their formation in 1993. Leader Mike Herriott performs as lead trumpet, jazz soloist and bassist with numerous artists and ensembles. His trumpet playing has been described in reviews as “dramatic and virile”.
Free at Last marks the Mike Herriott quintet’s first release. Consisting of mainly Herriott originals. 5/4 Magazine in Seattle pegs the album “a beautiful debut” and credits the leader with making a “spirited attack in the studio” and with providing “moving, evocative improvisation”.
