Founded in Montreal in 1993, Quasar is a saxophone quartet devoted mainly to new music. Reknowed for its energy, its daring, and its exceptional playing, Quasar explores many aspects of new music: instrumental works, electronic, instrumental theater, and multidisciplinary. QUASAR put a strong emphasis on the collaboration between interpreters and composers. They have commissioned many works to composers from Québec and Canada. They have played in concerts and at festivals throughout Canada, in Montreal, Jonquiere, Ottawa, and Calgary and their peformances are recorded regularly for broadcast by Radio-Canada. They have also performed in Rotterdam, Valencia and in Paris where they joined forces with the ensemble of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (Festival Présence/Radio-France).
