Like most Torontonians, I’m a commuter. And like many growing up in Toronto, my life of commuting was marked by the TTC! For all its downsides, commuting by subway was a lively, colourful, imaginative time. In this piece, I wanted to capture some of the wonder and excitement, some of the stimulation I felt getting around the city as a young person. There were always interesting people to observe, people who were going interesting places & leading interesting lives. And I was still too young to feel the other thing that commuting makes you feel: tired. This piece is a movement or part of a longer relay piece commissioned by Sonority Sisters called “Six in the 6ix”, featuring vignettes of Toronto life from six Toronto composers.
