These three pieces may be performed as a three movement suite, or individually as stand-alone pieces.
They were written after after I had spent over a year focusing on composing music for film. I became so addicted to writing music to accompany a story, that I had to invent my own imaginary films to inspire these pieces.
The title of the first piece, “Between Breaths”, refers to the practice in meditation of focusing on the moment when the breath changes direction. The piece begins with the ensemble taking some musical breaths together. The second piece, “Snow Rider”, feels like spending an evening inside of a snow globe. The third piece, “Dive”, has a zig-zagging descending theme, and is the most jazz-influenced of the three pieces.
