Northern Lights for Solo Flute and Electronics was commissioned by the Saskatchewan Youth Ballet in 1995 and premiered by flutist, Jane Schudel. The music strives to describe in sound the flashing, shifting colours of the aurora borealis with the ice crystals and the solar and earthly wind of the cold north depicted by the electronic background creating an accompaniment to the haunting melodies of the flute and piccolo. A later version was arranged for Jaye Marsh for her CD, Flue in the Wild with the harp and percussion replacing the original electronic background.
