O Rose (2018) – O Rose is inspired by the transcendent beauty, and longing,
of the Urlicht movement of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor “Resurrection.”
Taking as its starting point the serene opening harmonies of Urlicht,
the form of O Rose builds up slowly from a very quiet opening.
New harmonies and new orchestral colours enter gently, like drops of water
falling into a still pond, gradually producing ripples that range
further and further in the water.
