Moments of Glad Grace is a lyrical, good-natured piece for oboe and strings (a version for soprano saxophone also exists). It is in a freely tonal style and should be a joy for the soloist to play and a pleasure for the audience to hear. That is the intention, anyway. The title comes from W.B. Yeats’ poem, “When You Are Old” (…But many loved your moments of glad grace / And loved the sorrows of your changing face…”). I wanted to write a work of pure flowing melody, with rich, modern-romantic harmonies, and I believe I have succeeded!
