________
RESILIENCE is the debut album of Canadian violinist Emmanuel Vukovich featuring Canadian artists – pianist Katherine Dowling and baritone Philippe Sly performing Dinuk Wijeratne’s Sonata for Violin & Piano, Zosha Di Castri’s – Patina and the world premiere of Sheila Silver’s Resilient Earth Caprices. Inspired by Béla Bartok’s legacy of cross-cultural musical exploration, the album centres around Bartòk’s monumental Solo Violin Sonata and also includes a selection of Bartòk’s Turkish & Serbo-Croatian Folk & Peasant Melodies arranged by Vukovich. |
Recorded at Domaine Forget in Charlevoix Quebec by Martha de Francisco, the recording was produced by Leaf Music through a generous grant from the Canada Council for the Arts and mastered for Dolby-Atmos 7.1.4 Immersive Audio by John DS Adams. The album is executive produced by Michel Zgarka and Pierre Gautheir of HitLab Music Group and will be distributed on all streaming platforms by Warner Music Canada starting November 1st, 2023. |
The vision for RESILIENCE and the inspiration for the album’s title work Resilient Earth – Four Solo Violin Caprices by Sheila Silver is inspired by the four elements of Nature – Earth, Water, Air, Fire. As an ancient and archetypal expression of the primary building blocks of life, these four elements embody one of the oldest forms of medicine, healing and health known to humanity. |

“RESILIENCE” – Mi’kmaq Worldview by Teresa Marshall (2005)
Collection of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, Canada
“There are multiple worlds within the Mi’kmaq cosmology, each complete in itself. Collectively these layers exist as the Resilience of the Mi’kmaq Universe. In this animate cosmology, our language mirrors our beliefs that the land, sea and sky are possessed of powers we call Mntu. The sun, stars and constellations are also central to our worldview. As the giver of life, the sun, Niscaminou or grandfather, met our needs and gave us the power to overcome our enemies and bountiful harvests.” – Teresa Marshall
