Max Donaldson Trio
Max Donaldson – piano
Ian Afif – bass
Matteos Labbe-Phelan – drums

Emerging composers and improvisers in the Toronto music scene, drummer Matteos Labbe-Phelan, bassist Ian Afif, and pianist Max Donaldson debuted publicly in this configuration in early 2024. They will present compositions by Max and the trio exploring a dynamic range of musical aesthetics drawing from jazz traditions, gospel and folk music, and contemporary classical music, all rooted in and supported by highly organic improvising.

Stick Figures
Regan Mowery – Drums
Ezra Schell – Drums
Aidan McConnell – Drums

Stick Figures brings together a blend of rhythms and influences from the jazz and improvised music traditions. The trio explores conventional and experimental elements of drumming and strikes a balance between structure and freedom. Each member adds their voice to the mix, creating an engaging atmosphere where structure and improvisation meet. The result is a mix of swing, spontaneous rhythms, and free-flowing conversations that offer a fresh take on jazz drumming and musical collaboration.
