The two works on this recording, La porte (The Door) and Plume, belong to a genre that can be called monodrama: one solo vioce tells a story set to music. In both pieces, the vocal style emphasizes the different levels of the text, that is, the general narration and the characters. The musical accompaniment further evokes the characters and the situations.Arraymusic’s mission is to ignite and sustain a passion for contemporary Canadian musical art within an international, interdisciplinary context. This album presents four works commissioned by the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) from composers Isabelle Panneton, José Evangelista, Inouk Demers, and Jean Lesage,Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (ECM+) with Odette Beaupré (mezzo-soprano) perform works by Manuel de Falla, José Evangelista and José-Manuel Montañés.I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra (conductor, Yuli Turovsky) perform works for strings by Ginastera, Villa-Lobos, and Evangelista.Orchestra/Large Ensemble, Full Orchestra (20 or more)Keyboard, Piano, One Keyboard, Two Hands
