My Seventh Symphony progresses with a concern with harmonic (i.e.: vertical) structures in the First Movement to a melodic (i.e.: horizontal) concern in the Fourth Movement. An extended pizzicato section in the Third Movement is part of a gradual transition from very solid earthbound impressions to a more heartfelt and tuneful moments. This invites the listener to feel hope and then encouragement as the work ends.
