It’s not too surprising that many of Mozetich’s works from the late 1970s and early ’80s are best described as beautiful and charming yet very much modern, adjectives readily applied to all four works on this disc. In the words of the critics, “his music is like a breath of fresh air… overflowing with grace and good humour… has an attractive mix of minimal aspects, counterpoint and lyricism.”
El Dorado was the mythical city in South America sought by adventurers from all over the world. This land of gold and plenty was never found and the term El Dorado has come to mean an unattainable place of beauty, wealth and desire. Mozetich’s score is lush, melodic and richly romantic and, like many of his works of this period, takes its inspiration from traditional musical expression.
