Preface
This piece for Piano, Woodwinds and Strings is a reworking of my The Last Rose of Summer: Reflections in Autumn, for Piano and Organ, 2011 and is based on two Celtic Songs: The Irish song The Last Rose of Summer (text by Thomas Moore; melody a traditional tune Aislean an Olgfear) and the Scottish Comin’ Thro’ the Rye (text by Robert Burns; melody of Scottish Minstrel Common Frae The Town). The work was written for Duo Majoya (Dr. Marnie Giesbrecht, Dr. Joachim Segger) who premiered it on September 9, 2012 in the Winspear Centre, Edmonton.
The setting is a varied Da Capo with the first song used in the A-sections and combined with the second in the middle (B-) section.
My sincere gratitude to Trent Worthington for preparation of the digital score.
