A portal is a doorway, a gateway. Appearing ahead, sometimes starkly, grandly, like the arched entrance to a gothic cathedral through which one intends to walk. Sometimes appearing unexpectedly and (often) unbidden – like a fork in life’s road materializing out of the unguessed mists ahead. To pass through a portal is to somehow navigate from a known and familiar life into new, unknown territory (interior or exterior) or even into completely unexpected realms. As such, the decision to walk open-eyed into and through a portal is to take one’s fate in hand…and to have trust in what is about to unfold.
