Concert at 7:30pm
CMC Presents : Khatsko-Pimienta Duo – The Most Transparent Region
Surrender yourself to the sultry sounds of Latin American music and the words of musicians and storytellers. Some of Canada’s finest performers headline this night of tribute to our neighbours. The concert program features internationally acclaimed Mexican/Canadian storyteller and flutist Alhelí Pimienta, and passionate Belarussian/Canadian pianist Katya Khatsko, who, through the compositions of underrepresented masters, will dazzle with a powerful, touching, and original recital that weaves together story and instrumentation. Then the musicians will take us via storytelling from the Magical Realism of Mexico to the programmatic Romanzas of Cuba, to Venezuela’s Waltzes, and finally to right here in Toronto to enjoy a piece of history all lived through music, as it should be.

Katya and Alhelí launched their duo career in October 2019. Since October2019, they have developed creative and ambitious programs for all types of audiences.
The Khatsko-Pimienta Duo is all about performing music with a myriad of influences. Their performance style is inclusive, open, fun and laid back. They thrive in creating a connection with their audiences through storytelling.
During the pandemic, Katya and Alheli started new projects, performed alive-stream concert for the New York Flute Club from Burlington, the Puerto Rico Flute Symposium, and the Festival Perla del Pacifico in Ecuador, recorded 2 hours of professional videos, and planned for the release of their first album (2023!).

With a shared Alma mater, The Glenn Gould School of Music, one of Canada’s most reputable music schools, the players maintain a very active solo performing career. Both are passionate teachers, leading their own music schools, The Katya Khatsko Piano Studio in Mississauga and Etobicoke and the Flute Sprint International Studio in East York and Etobicoke, respectively.
