Par la suite, Stephen Tam, en compagnie de Katie Kirkpatrick (flute) et de Yoko Hirota (piano), interprètera 4 des 9 pièces de l’album. Il sera possible d’échanger avec le compositeur et les musiciens. Vin, bière et amuse-gueules seront disponibles.
À propos du CLÉS
Même si Clés n’est pas une série d’études ou de pièces pédagogiques, chaque mouvement explore des possibilités techniques de la flute. Les pièces ont été écrites en collaboration avec la flutiste et pédagogue suisse Myriam Valley.
Le compositeur a toujours aimé les jeux de mots, ou des calembours, pour ses titres et détourner le sens premier d’une expression. Clés fait référence, bien sûr, aux clés de l’instrument, mais chaque pièce (ou mouvement) a un titre qui inclut le mot clé. Par exemple, l’expression clés en main signifie qu’un projet, une fois réalisé, est aussitôt prêt à être utilisé. Pour cette pièce, j’utilise beaucoup de bruits percussifs avec les mains en plus de ceux produits par la flute : claquements de doigts, ouverture du tube de l’instrument frappé avec la paume de la main (pop sounds), le dessus de la main gauche frappé avec la main droite, etc. Un double des clés, qui signifie avoir un deuxième exemplaire des clés, est transposé ici dans l’idée des sons multiphoniques; deux notes jouées en même temps. Le terme Mots-clés, qui signifie avoir un indice, est traduit musicalement par l’utilisation de la voix, de syllabes dites par l’interprète.
Ces formules ludiques sont constantes dans toutes les pièces.

About CLÉS
Although Clés is not a series of etudes or pedagogical pieces, each movement explores technical possibilities of the flute. The pieces were written in collaboration with the Swiss flutist and pedagogue Myriam Valley.
The composer has always been fond of puns for his titles, twisting the original meaning of an expression. Clés refers, of course, to the keys of the instrument, but each piece (or movement) has a title that includes the word clés. For example, the expression clés en main (keys in hand) means that a project, once completed, is immediately ready for use. For this piece, I use a lot of percussive sounds with the hands in addition to those produced by the flute: finger snaps, the opening of the tube of the instrument struck with the palm of the hand (pop sounds), the top of the left hand struck with the right hand, etc. . Un double des clés (A duplicate key), which means having a second copy of the keys, is transposed here into the idea of multiphonic sounds; two notes played at the same time. The term Mots-clés (Key words), which means to have a clue, is translated musically by the use of the voice, of syllables said by the performer.
These playful formulas are constant in all the pieces.
