Wolfgang Bottenberg was born in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, in 1930. He has been in Canada since 1958. He has taught theory of music and music composition first at Acadia University (1964-73) and then at Concordia University, where he retired as Professor emritus in 1998. His numerous compositions include an opera (Inuk) and large scale works for orchestra and voices, but his preference is for chamber music.

The four works featured on this disc are representative of a kind of postmodern neoclassic style.
