It’s fine indeed to have this early music of Harry Somers in view again after a kind of abscence. Somers was 23 when he composed North Country. Brian Cherney has written that North Country remains « one of Somers most original and striking achievements. » This program of four key works of his early maturity brings him onto our compact disc players as the major Canadian composer he is.

1-4. North Country

5-8. Suite for Harp and Chamber Orchestra

9. Lyric for Orchestra

10-14. Symphony No.1
