It’s fine indeed to have this early music of Harry Somers in view again after a kind of abscence. Somers was 23 when he composed North Country. Brian Cherney has written that North Country remains “one of Somers most original and striking achievements.” This program of four key works of his early maturity brings him onto our compact disc players as the major Canadian composer he is.

1-4. North Country

5-8. Suite for Harp and Chamber Orchestra

9. Lyric for Orchestra

10-14. Symphony No.1
