Mike Gauthier decided for this CD to "reflect" on the bluesier side of the jazz spectrum, and in this recording Gauthier & Co. go from the basic 12 bar form to standard american song forms "à la blues" including along the way, other originals that Mike describes as "not necessarily blues numbers, but tunes that lend themselves well to the blues mentality."

More than anything else, Back To Back, is about teamwork, in this case the team of Canadian Hugh Fraser and Virgin Islands expatriate, Jean Toussaint. The players bring to bear on this collaboration their enormous talents, honed over the course of their already remarkable careers.
The sounds here represent the wide open way we play for warm listening jazz club crowds. The solos stretch and the individuals go for it. It's exciting, rough and honest - a snapshot of one very special night for us - our first ever live recording.
