This CD is the culmination of a large commissioning project initiated by the Lafayette String Quartet (Ann Elliott-Goldschmid and Sharon Stanis, violins; Joanna Hood, viola; and Pamela Highbaugh Aloni, cello) in 2020. They sought out female composers whose music spoke to them individually and collectively.

The works were commissioned by the Lafayette String Quartet through the BK Weigel Fund at the University of Victoria, and performed by the LSQ throughout Canada and the United States in their final season.

After a hall-mark filled concert career, and remarkably with no change in personnel, the all-female Lafayette String Quartet completed their 38-year career together with two farewell concerts in their “home” Phillip T. Young Recital Hall at the University of Victoria in August of 2023.

The LSQ was the Quartet in Residence at the University of Victoria from 1991-2023. Associate Professors Elliott-Goldschmid, Hood and Highbaugh Aloni continue to teach, perform, and champion new music at the School of Music, and host Quartet Fest West, an intensive chamber music festival in the summer months.
