The collection of works on Sea Change speaks of a marked change, in practice and in sound, of new music being written today. Colleague composer and artistic director Peter Hatch was invited to contribute an essay for the liner notes. He writes: « This disc presents a fascinating cross-cut of the new music/post-classical contemporary sound at the beginning of the 21st century. These works point to the potential emergence of a new aesthetic – a post-post modernism, or perhaps neo-modernism. Long gone (or absorbed) are arguments of consonance/dissonance, extended techniques or complexity, high vs. low art, irony or quotation. The composers here present us with new questions, new arguments, only now being formulated. »
