An exploration of improvised music through the performance of original compositions, emphasizing group interplay and adventurous arrangements.

Art Ellefson’s Jazz Modus Trio again attains a perfect blend of superlative sounds, and weaves them into the sort of original tapestry that has been so representative of their artistry over the years.

Jazz Modus has undergone innumerable variations in dramatis personae during its years of existence, and with « Interwoven », the nucleus – father and son combination of Art and Lee Ellefson – are joined by bassist Chris Nelson.

Ranging from the very mellow and smooth, to the lively, and ultimately experimental and free, there is always an affecting undertone to the music of Modus, and that is ‘romance’.

Interwoven is the fifth Canadian release by Art Ellefson.

« The Ellefson tenor sound and concept is a thing of beauty. He nods at Hawk, Ben and Lucky Thompson and is stylistically rooted in the jazz mainstream. His son Lee Ellefson is a most gifted guitarist/composer. »
New Post Leader, Newcastle England

« With son Lee on guitar, tenor sax veteran Art Ellefson & Jazz Modus shows he’s lost nothing of his big driving sound and sunny, lyrical approach »
Toronto Star

« At last – a release where everyone plays melodically and wholly within the proper compass of his instrument, and on compositions which have something worthwhile saying and are worked out to logical and musical conclusions! »
– David Badham, Jazz Journal International, London England
