thethingsinbetween : New Music For Piano
Eve Egoyan, specializing in the works of living composers, releases her first CD the things in between. The selections, all world premiere recordings, range from minimalist to experimental, from the lushly complex and abstract to compositions which recall a more standard classical repertoire. Eve has performed solo recitals to sold out houses, and as a soloist with some of the country’s leading orchestras. Following the release of ‘the things in between’ at BRAVO Studios in Toronto on October 27th, 1999, Eve will tour nine cities in Atlantic Canada in November.
WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:
« With grace and intensity in equal measure, Canadian pianist Eve Egoyan seems incapable of an unmellifluous gesture…And if there’s a thread that runs through this recording, it is the affection which the composers and performer obviously have for the piano – for its sonority, versatility and history. »
– Elissa Poole, Opus
« These are brilliant and sensational interpretations…stupendous, fabulous, magical! The stuff wildest fantasies are made of! »
– Michael Finnissy
« Eve Egoyan’s recording of my Piano Diary is probably the most satisfying realisation I have received of any of my works…quite extraordinarily perceptive. »
– Michael Longton
« Record of the Week…a fine debut disc…a thoughtfully sensuous performance. »
-Robert Everett-Green, The Globe and Mail, Oct.’99
« …a performer whose powers of listening cast a hypnotic spell over her audiences, opening their ears and hearts… »
– Tamara Bernstein, The National Post, Oct.’99
« With a first-rate piano and the acute clarification of digital technology, Egoyan’s musical spiritualism receives a magnified intimacy that is mesmerizing. »
Stephen Pederson, Halifax chronicle-Herald, Nov.’99
