‘Non Ti Appartiene’ (‘It Does Not Belong to You’) is the musical setting for soprano with piano accompaniment of the poem by the Italian-Canadian poet Elide Viviana Pagano (nee Trotta). Elide Pagano’s poem gives ‘voice’ to a generation of Italian-Canadian immigrants, particularly women who left their homes, families and beloved culture to follow their husbands to a new life in Canada after World War II. The song which premiered at the Columbus Centre on June 11, 2023 in honour of Italian Heritage month was commissioned by Coro San Marco founder Daniele Colla and was made possible through support from the Toronto Arts Council with funding from the City of Toronto.
