The Suite Concertante for Oboe d’Amore was composed in 2014 and revised in 2022. The piece is composed in the style of a baroque suite, typical for the era this instrument belongs to. However, the tonal possibilities in terms of modulations to distant keys, available orchestral colors, range, and general style are vastly expanded, while still retaining the core sound of the era. The piece is highly demanding for the oboe d’amore player, though the piece is not a true concerto; prominence is not given to the soloist in the same way it would traditionally receive. Solos and interesting passages abound for all sections of the orchestra, as the bulk of the material is spread more evenly among the players. One of the key objectives of this suite, is to serve as a revivalist piece, giving the spotlight and new repertoire to an instrument that has very little, yet has the potential to give so much.
