LYRIC CONCERTO was originally commissioned by the Toronto-based Trio Lyra, under a grant from the Ontario Arts Council. The planned premiere never took place and the work – completely recomposed and edited in a number of places – is now, almost 30 years later, finally made available for performance and perusal. The three soloists are pitted in a friendly competition against each other and the accompanying ensemble throughout the work, with the lyricism of the Prelude and Interlude balancing the relentless virtuoso displays of the even-numbered movements.
