This piece is an ode to a wonderful person, Darren Rich. Darren is a pilot, flight instructor, and trombone player. While the Greater Victoria Concert Senior Band (GVCB) was, was rehearsing a composition of mine, Darren reached out to me to negotiate a certain trombone passage. I felt honored and impressed: I found it very inspiring that a musician will take such steps to make music as personable as possible! While I thought (and still think) I owe Darren a big thank you, Darren went on to give me an aerial tour of Victoria, British Columbia, when I came to hear the GVCB perform. This piece highlights the Trombone section. Stylistically, it combines elements of Jig and Ladino musical styles, symbolizing the versatility of styles that I have heard GVCB engage with.
