This piano solo piece is dedicated to my colleague, pianist Dr. Joachim Segger, who asked me to write him a Nocturne. The work starts in a nocturnal mood but evolves into something that evokes the image of daybreak and brightness.

The piece is in Rondo form and based on an emblematically encoded theme as a tribute to Joachim. The theme forms the basic material for the whole composition and appears in transposed, augmented, fragmented, or inverted form. The original statement of the theme only appears in the last four measures.

My sincere thanks to Diederick Basson for the 2022 transcription of the manuscript into a digital PDF.
