The scene takes place on a hot midsummer’s day in Helen’s Prêt-à-Porter and Bridal Shop in Shakespeare, Ontario. Helen is a 30-ish clothing designer, portrayed by a soprano. Her older friend and employee, Taylor, is a dressmaker. He is played by a baritone.

The three ladies are invisible creatures sent by the goddess Aurora to enlighten mortals. They have come to help Helen see the truth of her marriage. For a concert performance, they can easily be left out. Their music may be added by the pianist or simply ignored.
