A Little History
In 2008 I received an email from a lady named Mary Wilson asking if I could write an arrangement for flute and voice of the traditional German Carol from Geistliche Kirchengesang, 1599 ‘Lo How A Rose E’er Blooming’.
I was intrigued by this – but I must confess –
I had no idea that this was the first part of a long journey for me.
Over the years I ended up additionally arranging this piece for 2 flutes and then violin and flute.
This arrangement in its various guises has had numerous recordings and performances.
These include performances and recordings by sopranos – Mary Wilson (December, 2008), Alison Wheeler, Robbi Boston, Sandra Fisher, Mattie Banzhaf and Kelly Boudreaux: and flautists, Megan (December, 2008), Mary Jane Sullivan, Mary Matthews and
Colleen Muriel.
On March 9, 2013 the soprano and flute arrangement was performed at the
Women Composers Festival of Hartford by
Mary Matthews – flute and Kelly Boudreaux – soprano.
This latest arrangement for violin and flute has been performed and recorded by violinists Patrick Halling and Edward Carey (Colleen Muriel – flute)
