String Theory is a concept from physics which predicts the existence of additional dimensions in nature (parallel universes, if you will) and which claims that – very simply put – matter is comprised by filaments of energy connecting everything (strings), rather than isolated point-like particles.
The following piece similarly presents three distinct musical worlds in one: a medieval Portuguese song reimagined with extended techniques for strings (Rosa das Rosas), fragments of my doctoral research (Two Vortices on a Theme), and finally sonorities/harmonies from last century’s concert music (Spirit of Century Past). Each piece is an individual work in its own right, but they are also interconnected somehow – they would not exist without one another.
String Theory is dedicated to composer Alex Jang, who supports me at every step of this journey towards understanding hidden connections, towards understanding that simultaneity can be a whole (both in music and in the world)
