The Hannaford Street Silver Band was formed in 1983, and gave its first public appearance that year for Canada Day celebrations at Toronto’s Harbourfront. The ensemble consists of professional musicians, many of whom perform regularly with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and the National Ballet Orchestra.

The appeal of the brass band stems from its distinctive instruments, which were developed in the 1850s. The cornets, flugelhorns, tenorhorns, baritones and euphoniums in combination with trombones, tubas and percussion, combine to produce a variety of sounds which have since rung out from the coronation of kings to the village band stand. It is to this rich tradition that the Hannaford Street Silver Band brings a high degree of professionalism and musical achievement.
