One of Canada’s most outstanding avant-garde composers, R. Murray Schafer has written music in all forms, including orchestral music, chamber music and musical theatre. Schafer has made important contributions to the development of choral repertoire and compositional technique and thought. He has a longstanding association with Jon Washburn and the Vancouver Chamber Choir which has resulted in several new works as well as two recordings devoted to his choral compositions.

Once on a Windy Night is the second of these recordings. The first, A Garden of Bells, is also distributed by the CMC.
