“From void” dredges up and earths material from a similarly titled work, relying on human and technological fallibility to “fail” in accurately replicating the material. Taking especially compelling moments from the source material, the composer then used imprecise analysis software to glean “false” harmonic fields. This act of intentional failure acts as a ghost of vulnerability, an acknowledgment of inherent imperfection. These “ghosts” appear throughout the piece – orchestrational projections and spectres of sound, rattles and whispers of things heard before. *This work is dedicated to Clara Iannotta, a transformational teacher and mentor.
