May 13, 2022, TORONTO, ON – For Immediate release

President and CEO Glenn Hodgins is delighted to announce the appointment of Joseph Glaser to the senior management team of the CMC effective immediately.

Joseph brings to this role a vast knowledge of contemporary Canadian music, having studied and worked in several provinces across the country.  He is a composer with traditional “classical” training who brings a diverse and eclectic perspective to the role. Through his work, he has increasingly been in touch with media, sound and performance artists.

“I’m delighted to welcome Joseph to the CMC team in this new role. He has already demonstrated his commitment and passion for composers and their work through his three years on staff. This is a tremendous boost for the CMC.”
Glenn Hodgins, President & CEO

The CMC gratefully acknowledges former CMC ON Regional Director, Matthew Fava for his rich contributions to the CMC and the communities we serve. He was an invaluable member of the CMC for over 10 years, and a strong supporter of artists and music creation.

For the past three years, Joseph has worked at CMC’s Head Office as the Music Services and Events Assistant where he worked closely with former Regional Director, Matthew Fava. Joseph also provided bi-lingual support to membership, the public and the CMC team. In this role, he was a liaison with composers, and the first point of contact for all new Associate Composers. His work with CMC’s Library and Shop provides him with a deep understanding of the works in CMC’s catalogue, as well as valuable systems knowledge.  He worked closely with artists using the Chalmers Performance Space. He was the Production Manager for the CMC Presents concert series and essential to the effective operations of in-person and livestreamed events.

Joseph’s promotion to ON Regional Director reflects his excellent service to CMC’s membership and his demonstrated capabilities to fulfill the CMC’s vision, mission and strategic priorities for CMC Ontario. His capacity and knowledge for systems and technology, plus his event management skills are valuable assets for CMC Ontario.

“I am looking forward to working with Joseph Glaser as our CMC Ontario Regional Director. His ideas for the Toronto concert space and for outreach across the province are excellent. As a composer himself and three-year employee of the CMC, Joseph is suited to support and celebrate the wealth of activity happening in the Ontario Region, as well as to see opportunities for collaboration.”
Abigail Richardson-Schulte, Ontario Regional Council Chair

Joseph grew up in Montréal. He moved to Toronto and then to Vancouver to do his undergrad in Music Composition at UBC, where he studied with well-known CMC Associate Composers such as Dorothy Chang, Jocelyn Morlock, Keith Hamel, and Stephen Chatman. He returned to Montréal where he did his Masters degree in Music Composition at McGill University, studying with CMC Associate Composer Jean Lesage.  He moved to Toronto in 2019 and joined CMC Canada, eventually becoming the Coordinator of Music Services and Events. He was a production manager for a young artist program with the Vancouver International Song Institute that was focused on opera artists and pianists.  He has been a board member of McGill Association of Students Composers, Codes d’accès and Montreal Contemporary Music Lab.

Joseph feels that CMC has great potential as a community space to be a home for sound creators. He would like to see a broadening of who can be included and welcomed within the CMC, just as he felt welcomed.

“Over the past two months it’s been such a privilege to facilitate a number of events and initiatives in our space and to have many conversations with community members. I am overjoyed at having the opportunity to continue this work at the CMC and expand my role in serving this wonderful community.”
Joseph Glaser, Regional Director, CMC Ontario
